Country Living with City Convenience

Floresville TX located in Wilson County has been called a bedroom city because it is so close to San Antonio.  From the city center to downtown San Antonio is about a 30 minute commute and you can reach Boerne or any location in San Antonio in an hour (if the traffic is not snarled in San Antonio).  We always call it country living with city convenience as a majority of the homes are on at least 1 acre of land and have a quick drive to anywhere. The city of Floresville has  Wal Mart, HEB, Bealls, McCoy’s, Tractor Supply, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Church’s Fried Chicken, LIttle Caesar’s Pizza, Capparelli’s Italian as well as our own local businesses like home town restaurants and  small shops like Heart Like Mine and  Sister’s which was opened by sisters about 30 years ago within the city limits. The small local vendors are always helpful with your needs and pride themselves on their service.   But if you want more it is a short drive up US Hwy 181 to Brooks City Base and all the businesses located in San Antonio.

While the city itself only has a bit more than 7,000 people the outlying developments has contributed thousands to its growth and the size of the schools. Those subdivision developments range from about 1 acre to 5 acres for each home-site and range in price from the $350,000s to more than $500,000.  While there is lower priced homes the market is very limited in that price range. Some areas are building a few homes in the $180,000-275,000 range on small lots. While Floresville has always been a short commute to San Antonio and had a bustling home sales market, the Eagleford Shale came to Wilson County in about 2010 and changed our landscape quite a bit.   It brought in new businesses and a great uptick in our home sales along with prices. So buying a home in Floresville has become a bit more expensive than it was in the past.

Floresville  has celebrated the Annual  Floresville Peanut Festival since 1938.  A fun packed activity which draws thousands of people to enjoy the parade, the street dances, the carnival.  One can eat peanut brittle and sample the various concessions available while enjoying the carnival.  It is the second weekend in October and features Goober games on Tuesday, the Queen’s Coronation on Thursday night, a Kiddie Parade on Friday, Friday night street dance,  and the main Parade and activities on Saturday ending with the Saturday night street dance.

The Floresville Event Center is on the outskirts of town on HWY 97 going towards Pleasanton close to the city park and the San Antonio River.  Events such as Opry Night which packs in the crowds and the Connally Memorial Hospital Consolata Healthcare Foundation Denim & Diamonds Night with dinner and a gaming night to benefit  the hospital’s services to the community.

The schools have great programs for the students and are always working on improving what they can offer the students.  And of course, football and the other sports are a big activity even if it isn’t a winning season.  The FISD Mighty Tiger band wins numerous awards and is always a sight to behold.

Wilson County was formed from Bexar County and Atascosa County in 1860 with Sutherland Springs as the county seat but after several years Floresville became the county seat.  We have a long history with farming and ranching.  In the past almost the entire county was farm land which has slowly changed as peoples’ lives have changed.  So while it retains its small town charm and feeling the great majority of the people commute to San Antonio for their jobs.
