What Colors are Popular in Homes

That
depends upon the year
An
article from NATIONAL
ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS
shares statistics and explains why those colors do not work.
And
why neutrals do. So,
stop before you paint your living room or dining room red. According
to a survey, red is the most off-putting color. It
is extremely strong and may not be to everybody’s taste,” the
study notes.
Fixr’s
Paint & Color Trends report the following as the most off-putting
colors to home buyers:
Red:
53%
Lime
green: 53%
Bright
yellow: 40%
Mustard
yellow: 19%
Pink:
10%
Turquoise:
9%
Home
stagers and designers like using color strategically to warm up a
space and make it appear more spacious. As Realtors we will advise the same. As a touch not a splash.
61%
of experts recommend using warm neutrals—like beige and white—to
help make small spaces appear larger.
The
study notes that "Warm neutrals can reflect light and visually
recede, and their calmness can make a space feel less overwhelming.”
White
was a favorite among home stagers because it makes spaces seem more
spacious and gives the illusion of higher and wider ceilings.Too
much bright white
can be overpowering and look sterile. Warm
whites age better and look less stark.
When
selling a house, paint and color trends need to be used in a softened
way.
Even
if “attention-grabbing” colors are popular, your buyers may not
love these trendy colors.
And
while those (Trends) are great for interior design, they need to be
used in a more moderate way when selling a property.
But
think in these terms. Remember when all houses were beige. Agents
called it builder beige. Then it went to gray as the “new
neutral”. Gray is out and lighter shades of brown are back. You will see a lot of newly built semi custom homes with a mixture of
browns and grays. What do you personally think of that idea?
Personal
opinion is that I think brown or beige tones age better. Gray can be
more “cool” than brown tones. Brown tones tend to be warmer. The
final choice comes to preference. So if you plan on selling stick
with popular neutral colors. If painting for your family, consider
what you will like long term. Not what is current or popular.
